General Pregnancy Health Advice and Hygiene Practices:
Foods and drinks to avoid or limit in pregnancy:
- Avoid fish high in mercury, ready-to-eat chilled foods, soft cheeses, raw eggs, and raw seafood.
- Avoid double-shot espresso and energy drinks.
- Limit caffeine intake to 1 espresso, 2 instant coffees, 4 cups of tea, or 4 cans of cola per day.
- Limit sugary and fatty foods.
Smoking, alcohol, and other drugs, and medicines:
- Don’t smoke or vape during pregnancy; avoid second-hand smoke.
- Avoid alcohol consumption as it can cause serious health problems in babies.
- Consult your doctor or midwife about the safety of any medicines or supplements you’re taking.
- Avoid recreational drugs and seek assistance from your healthcare provider to quit if needed.
Daily health and hygiene:
- Maintain dental hygiene to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Drink tap water, brush with fluoride toothpaste twice daily, and use floss or interdental brushes. Regular dental check-ups are recommended.
- Practice good hygiene by washing hands regularly, especially after using the toilet and before preparing food, to prevent illness and infection.

First Trimester:
- Schedule a prenatal appointment: Start receiving prenatal care.
- Take prenatal vitamins: Ensure they contain essential nutrients like folic acid, iron, and calcium.
- Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water.
- Eat a balanced diet: Include fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats.
- Listen to your body: Rest when tired.
- Keep a diary: Record your pregnancy journey.
- Bond with your partner: Spend quality time together.
- Practice self-care: Pamper yourself with relaxing activities.
Second Trimester:
- Prepare your nursery: Plan and decorate with essential items.
- Maintain regular exercise: Engage in safe activities like walking, swimming, or prenatal yoga.
- Monitor your weight: Consult with your healthcare provider.
- Practice relaxation techniques: Use deep breathing or meditation.
- Continue self-care: Enjoy relaxing baths and mindfulness practices.
Third Trimester:
- Attend childbirth classes: Learn about labor and delivery.
- Prepare for breastfeeding: Educate yourself on breastfeeding techniques.
- Organize a hospital bag: Pack essentials for the hospital stay.
- Rest and relax: Prioritize rest and manage stress.
- Finalize baby preparations: Ensure everything is ready for the baby’s arrival
